This initiative jeopardizes integration, the labor market, security, and social cohesion
At SPORTEGRATION, we experience every day what emerges when people meet: trust, community, commitment, and real opportunities. On the sports field, people with diverse backgrounds train together. Participants become volunteers, volunteers become friends, and sport evolves into a shared life.
That's precisely why we take a clear stance: We say no to the SVP's "Keine 10-Millionen Schweiz" initiative (Chaos Initiative)!
This initiative claims to offer simple answers to complex challenges. By limiting immigration of asylum seekers and people with a migration background, it aims to solve challenges such as environmental problems, the housing shortage, and an overburdened healthcare system. In reality, however, it would have drastic consequences for Switzerland, the labor market, security, and for people who depend on support and fair opportunities.
Who will do the work? The need for labor remains, even with rationed immigration. There is already a shortage of workers in nursing, skilled trades, the hospitality industry, caregiving, and many other sectors. The SVP initiative would lengthen waiting times, increase the cost of services, or eliminate them altogether. We would all be affected: patients, customers, families, businesses, and municipalities.
The initiative is also risky from a security policy perspective. It jeopardizes not only the Schengen/Dublin Agreement but also the bilateral approach. This would have direct consequences for cooperation with our neighboring countries. Weakening international cooperation will not make Switzerland safer, but more vulnerable. Responsible policy strengthens security through cooperation, not isolation. The SVP initiative would immediately lead to Switzerland's isolation in the heart of Europe.
With its initiative, the SVP is diverting attention from the real challenges. Housing, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and the labor market need concrete solutions, not deterrence. A policy that categorically declares a specific group of people to be a problem helps us neither individually nor as a society. It weakens social cohesion and prevents precisely the integration that makes our society stronger.
The Swiss People's Party (SVP) is portraying itself as a problem solver with this initiative, but in doing so, it exposes itself as the biggest challenge facing Switzerland.
Therefore, our position is clear: No to the SVP's Keine 10-Millionen Schweiz initiative. No to a politics of fear. No to bureaucracy, distributional conflicts, and new risks. Yes to integration, civic engagement, and a Switzerland based on solidarity, where people take responsibility and work together to find solutions.
