From the Surprise street football tournament to the stadium.

4/9/2026

On April 4, 2026, everything revolved around football, community, and lived integration. At the Surprise street football tournament, SPORTEGRATION was represented with two teams: Team Basel and a mixed Team Bern/Basel.

The tournament not only offered exciting matches but also created numerous opportunities for encounters between people from diverse backgrounds. Such sporting activities for people from different backgrounds create spaces where exchange, fairness, and team spirit take center stage.

A special highlight was the final match: Team Basel faced Team Bern/Basel. In an intense and emotional game, Team Bern/Basel ultimately secured the victory and won the tournament. However, regardless of the result, one thing stood above all: the shared experience and the commitment of everyone involved, reaching beyond the boundaries of the community.

Afterwards, part of the group headed straight to the stadium. A total of 13 participants from the SPORTEGRATION community had the opportunity to experience the exciting 3:3 draw in the Super League match between FC Basel and Young Boys live. For many, this was an unforgettable moment and a new experience in Swiss football.

Days like these clearly show how important sports programs are for people with a refugee background. They not only provide access to leisure and physical activity but also make a valuable contribution to integration and sustainably strengthen the sense of community. At the same time, they highlight how essential engagement and volunteering are in Switzerland to make such experiences possible.
