Internship in the NGO world

10/24/2025

Six months can change a lot – especially your view on integration, volunteering and NGO work. One of our former interns at SPORTEGRATION, Mitja Wehrli, put it this way:

“Before my internship, I had never heard of SPORTEGRATION. Now I know this organisation deserves far more attention – the work is incredibly meaningful.”

During his time with us, he saw firsthand how desk work can lead to real-world impact – in sports sessions, events and encounters that shape lives.

What stood out most? The freedom and responsibility he was given:

“I wasn’t treated like a ‘typical intern’. I was trusted to work independently, and I learned so much about NGOs, the asylum system and integration through sport.”

One of his most touching memories came during a distribution of sports gear at a collective asylum centre in Bern:

“The joy and gratitude of the people there really moved me. It reminded me how powerful even small actions can be.”

And, of course, he remembers the team lunches – in the office or playing football by the lake in summer.

His message to future interns?

“You’ll find an amazing, motivated team, flat hierarchies, and the chance to gain experiences you’ll never forget.”

Want to join the team in 2026? We’re currently looking for five new interns starting in February:
